Our batched sparse (BATS) coding scheme is now an RFC! RFC 9426, “BATched Sparse (BATS) Coding Scheme for Multi-hop Data Transport”, was published by the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) in July 2023.
The document specifies a baseline BATS coding scheme for data delivery in multi-hop networks: an outer code that generalizes fountain codes, combined with batch-based linear network coding (recoding) as the inner code. It provides researchers and engineers a starting point for developing protocols and applications based on BATS codes, and lays out open research issues towards more sophisticated schemes.
RFC 9426 was authored by Shenghao Yang (CUHK-Shenzhen & n-hop technologies), Xuan Huang, Raymond W. Yeung, and John K. Zao, as a product of the IRTF’s Coding for Efficient Network Communications Research Group (NWCRG).
